About-Sarah-Poulos

Sarah Burns, MSW, LCSW

“I help people connect with themselves and find their inner-strength, sometimes for the first time!”

Do you often feel weighed down by anxiety, depression, or addiction? Do you find yourself wanting more out of life than you’re getting right now? Are you ready to understand your value and get out of your own way?

I am here to guide you through the therapeutic process with empathy, compassion, and truth. I know how heavy and lonely anxiety, depression, and addiction can feel. We can work together to implement strategies in your everyday life that will help you overcome the pain that’s holding you back. I truly believe you have it within you to find your inner-strength and treat yourself with the love, understanding, and forgiveness you deserve.

You are stronger than you think you are. You are resilient, hopeful, and capable of growth. While working to achieve your goals, we’ll explore ways to add purpose, meaning, and balance to your life. You don’t have to settle for less than you deserve, and you don’t have to struggle alone. Whether you’ve been to therapy before or you’re new to the experience, I look forward to walking alongside you on the path to healing and self-love.

What I love about my job:

I love helping clients see themselves in a new light, and view their past, present, and future with more clarity and compassion.

Inspiration:

I have a beautiful eucalyptus tree in my backyard. After a rare snowstorm for this area, the tree looked like it wouldn’t survive. What was once a blooming 12-foot tree was now a few inches of a stump in the ground. I didn’t know anything about eucalyptus trees or if they could grow again, but it did. During Hurricane Florence, I was worried sick about that tree. Sure enough, the storm took out what had grown back. Now, after a few years of love, patience, and sunshine, I have a tree that stands proudly at about 6 feet tall and provides me with beautiful leaves that I can share with friends and family. I like to think we are all a little bit like eucalyptus trees: Resilient, imperfect, and beautiful.

On a Personal Note:

I love to spend time on the beach with my niece and nephew and travel and explore new places. I am a fan of adventures big and small – including paddleboarding, yoga, and girls nights (pajama party sleepover style!). When I’m not in the office, you can find me on stage doing karaoke, acting, or dancing as a proud member of Wilmington’s vibrant dance and theatre community.
